The Fool / 이매 탈

Mixed media; papier-mâché, acrylic.

Both Bride and Fool designs are derived from hahoetal from 12th century Joseon (Korea). The use of feathers which often adorned male nobility strike a paradoxical contrast to its subjects, either female or subservient in nature. Their overlooked and undervalued status granted them the ability to speak truth to power.
